The Narrows-- where the river is the trail.
If you are in southern Utah during the right time of the year, a hike through Zion National Park's Narrows is a great experience. Terri and I were there in June 2009 and the Virgin River was at a very manageable height. We hiked about five miles upstream and then came back with the flow of the river. At its deepest, I was wet up to my upper-thigh. Most of the time the depth was about 12-18 inches. Because the strength of the current is affected by the volume (depth) of the water, our hike gave us just enough of a challenge.
Here we are in a little side canyon where we had our picture taken by the mom of a nice family that we kept running in to everywhere we went.
