French Quarter 1

Architecture. The French Quarter of New Orleans is known for many things. This pic highlights the wrought iron balcony, pastel color scheme, and beaten, weathered look of many of the buildings.

Weeping Angel

The Weeping Angel (or Angel of Grief) is in the Chapman H. Hyams mausoleum in Metairie cemetery in New Orleans. The blue tint is from the blue stained glass in the windows and doors. I was able to get this photo because vandals broke the window on one side.

Ionic column

From the mausoleum of Chapman H. Hyams, which houses the famous "Weeping Angel" (or "Angel of Grief") statue. I will post at least one picture of that statue later. It is beautiful and very well-known around New Orleans.

New Orleans cemetery

Some of the older and more traditional crypts in the Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans. It is customary for families to spend a lot of money on this type of honor to their dead.

NOT the Magic Kingdom

This is a view of a statue of Andrew Jackson with St. Louis Cathedral in the background. It was taken in Jackson Square, in New Orleans's French Quarter.

Bankrupt!

What?! News of the bankruptcy filing by Hostess rocked the world of anyone who ever packed a lunch to school in the 60s, 70s, or 80s.

I can't imagine a brown bag school lunch without a Twinkie, Ding-Dong, or a Ho-Ho.

Hopefully, they will survive.

Some assembly required

When mom went back to work, she would leave dinner with instructions for us to make. For whatever reason, the task usually fell to the one sibling who always had the best grades. This sibling has been continually harassed because of the one time that crescent rolls were on the menu and he/she (I'm not saying) thought they rolled themselves up while cooking. We had triangular crackers with dinner that night!

You know I did.

Muck Boot Retail Display

I saw this display in a downstate gas station / convenience store. They are high quality and charge a good buck for the product. Maybe Sara would like the pink ones.

Percision?

But not percise at spelling or the use of apostrophe's.

2/29/2012

Leap Day 2012 was unseasonably warm. But, as is typical in the Midwest, you can count on it being consistently inconsistent as is evidenced by the weather forecast for the next few days.
